St. Rep. Joyce Beatty to Deliver King Day Address

State Representative Joyce Beatty of Columbus will deliver the keynote address for this year's commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day. The commemoration will be at First Baptist Church, 140 Regent St., Dover, on Monday, January 20, 2003, at 7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to everyone.

The Tuscarawas County Commissions have proclaimed that this event will be the official commemoration of King Day in Tuscarawas County.

"We hope that this year's commemoration will be a reflection of the renewed efforts by our church and community leaders to achieve unity and fellowship with one another," announced Rev. Christopher Lowery, "My prayer is that we believe in the King dream and strive together to make it our reality."

Beatty represents the 27th Ohio House District in Columbus. She is the Assistant Minority Leader in the Ohio House of Representatives. Rep. Beatty is also President of Joyce Beatty & Associates, Inc., a nationally recognized consulting firm, specializing in strategic planning and diversity training. She is a member of the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Commission.

The Tuscarawas County Republican Women and the Tuscarawas County Democratic Women will provide refreshments after the program.

"By attending this event, each individual can contribute to a spirit of unity. We can advance Dr. King's vision," according to Richard Renner, a Dover attorney who is sponsoring the program with Rev. Lowery.
